Version Description
The functional versions of the CSHN are SLB1 and SLB2.
Compared with the SLB1CSHN, the SLB2CSHN incorporates the following functions:
Multiprotocol label switching transport profile (MPLS-TP) tunnel OAM
ETH pseudo wire emulation edge-to-edge (PWE3) packets carrying control words
Virtual private LAN services (VPLSs)
Application
CSHN boards function as system control, switching, and timing boards on OptiX RTN 980 NEs. In this scenario, these boards also converge and groom various services using their STM-1/4 and GE service ports.
Figure 1 Application scenario of CSHN boards
NOTE:
In the preceding figure, IF boards can be TDM IF boards, or general-purpose IF boards or XPIC IF boards working in SDH microwave mode if they need to converge TDM microwave services, and they can be general-purpose IF boards or XPIC IF boards working in native E1+Ethernet mode or native STM-1+Ethernet mode if they need to converge integrated IP microwave services.
E1 services shown in the preceding figure can be native E1 services or CES/ATM E1 services, and Ethernet services can be native Ethernet services or ETH PWE3 services.
Service boards shown in the preceding figure can be Ethernet interface boards, STM-1 interface boards, E1 interface boards, or Smart E1 processing boards.
Functions and Features
The CSHN provides 22 Gbit/s packet switching, full time-division cross-connection, system control and communication, and clock processing functions. It provides GE ports, STM-1/4 ports, auxiliary ports, and management ports.
Table 1 lists the functions and features that the CSHN supports.

The packet switching unit of the CSHN works with its service interface unit or a service board to implement MPLS/PWE3 functions. Table 2 provides details about these functions.
NOTE:
The following functions are applicable only to the SLB2CSHN.
MPLS-TP tunnel OAM that complies with ITU-T Y.1731
MPLS-TP PW OAM that complies with ITU-T Y.1731
