Four challenges of 5g development(1) Updatetime:2019-12-02 17:39:42
Challenge 1: unclear business model

Operators are facing great pressure of "speed up and cost reduction" and homogeneous competition. At present, the 5g era business model is most likely to include two categories: traffic based and information service based. The traffic based model is still an important profit model for operators in the 5g era. In the 5g era, the data volume will show explosive growth. On the one hand, data volume blowout comes from the rapid development of big video in 5g era, and the application of 4K, 8K, VR / Ar / MR, holography and other technologies will be accelerated. Users' consumption habits, like the transformation from text mode to video mode, will rapidly popularize 4K, 8K, VR / Ar / MR and holographic services.

Challenge 2: huge investment in construction and operation

The general rate of 5g construction will adopt the mode of first urban area, then suburban area; first hot spot, then connected; first low frequency, then high frequency; first outdoor, then indoor; first macro station, then small and micro base station. In order to reduce the networking cost and ensure the user experience, we should actively and steadily promote the distribution, and in most cases emphasize the dependence on 4G LTE.But even so, the capex of 5g construction is huge. In addition to macro station investment, 5g development also involves a large number of small and micro base stations, optical transmission, core network, multi access edge computing and other investments.
At the same time, 5g operating investment (OPEX) will also be huge. The power consumption of 5g base station is 2.5-4 times that of 4G base station, and the energy cost such as electricity charge is higher and higher. In addition, the number of 5g base stations will increase, especially the number of small and micro base stations will surge, the cost of station location will be higher and higher, and the amount of optical fiber will also surge.
